Baldwinsville Just as in most recent campaigns, the lone suspense around the Baldwinsville girls volleyball team is whether any opponent can even notch a set against them.
No one has in 2011, and Oswego didn’t get close, either, in Tuesday night’s match where the Bees registered yet another sweep.
Never mind that the Buccaneers arrived at this match with a 7-1 record and the lead in the CNY Counties League American division, or that it gained the first point of the contest.
B’ville responded with 18 consecutive points, mostly on Sarah Klaben’s serves (she finished with eight aces), and won that first set 25-3, and did much the same thing in the third set to win 25-4. In between, Oswego had its beset showing in the second set, but B’ville still managed to take it 25-19.
Shannon Albright found time to produce 25 assists, plus eight digs. Up front, Sydnie Hamm led with 11 kills and Paulina Rein had eight kills, adding three assists and six digs, while Allegra Bell and Lexi Lagoy both had six kills. Klaben had nine digs and Danielle Sayler contributed six digs.
As this was going on, B’ville’s boys volleyball team played three tough sets at Fayetteville-Manlius, but won them all to sweep the Hornets 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.
Ryan Zbikowski picked up 15 kills, plus three digs and two aces, with help on the front line from Anthony DiMarco (five kills), Shawn Calnan (four kills, four blocks) and Cliff Peterson (four kills).
Ryan Shelton had a stunning all-around effort with 29 assists, five kills, three blocks and three digs, while Jordan Hughes contributed nine digs.
