LETTERS: Female Charitable Society, Rotary Club improve quality of life

— I would like to express my thanks to two organizations: Female Charitable Society and the Rotary Club of Baldwinsville.

The first is a volunteer organization that manages a durable medical equipment closet containing everything from canes to hospital beds for the residents of Baldwinsville. As a home health physical therapist, I heavily rely on this organization to help provide much needed equipment to many people in our area.

Recently, I had a client who desperately needed what is called a lift chair. For those unfamiliar with this chair, it has a device that allows the chair to elevate allowing a person to successfully transfer from sit to stand safely without additional assistance. Unfortunately it is expensive with the majority of the cost not covered by any health insurance.

Knowing Female Charitable occasionally has such chairs, I found one to be available, but my client had no way of transporting the chair. Fortunately, three members of our local Rotary Club planning on making a delivery to Female Charitable made themselves available without hesitation and delivered the chair. Between these two organizations, my client’s quality of life improved immensely. Again, my thanks.

Mary Schmutz is a physical therapist from Baldwinsville.
