SYRACUSE Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams began a month full of post-season activity with the CNY Counties League National division championships.
In the girls meet Monday at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena, the Bees managed to pick up 98 points, third behind Cicero-North Syracuse (152 points) and Liverpool (122 points).
B’ville prevailed in the 4x400 relay, where Gina Carnovale, Angelica Tomasello, Cierra Allen and Quaniesha Ivey put up a time of 4:13.75, more than 10 seconds clear of runner-up Liverpool.
Carnovale wasn’t done, going to the 55-meter dash and prevailing in 7.64 seconds as Stephanie Vasteno (7.75 seconds) was third, and also second in the long jump with 16 feet 3 ¼ inches.
Allen was second in the 300-meter dash in 44.93 seconds, with Tomasello (46 seconds flat) fourth. Allen, Ivey, Julia Nagy and Sarah Layton were second (1:56.97) in the 4x200 relay. Emily Soeder cleared 5 feet to gain second place in the high jump.
Mackenzie Ross got second place in the 600-meter run in 1:43.67, with Vasteno fourth (10.12 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles. Ross, Kim Cushman, Emily Thompson and Chandra Hewitt were third in the 4x800 relay in 10:40.89.
Hannah Olds earned third place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:38.10, while Kim Cushman was sixth. Eighth-grader Kelley Hull took fourth (3:25.24) in the 1,000-meter run. Julia Johnson was fifth (5:23.93) in the 1,500-meter run. Lauren Fisher took fifth in the pole vault and Cecilia Martinez was sixth in the shot put.
Then the boys CNYCL National meet took place Wednesday, also at SRC Arena, and B’ville picked up 69 points, tying West Genesee for third place behind C-NS (194 points) and Liverpool (101 points).
Shay Sargeant gave the Bees a victory in the 55 sprint, beating the Northstars’ Sean Broughton, 6.83 seconds to 6.88. Andy Fleming took advantage of Liverpool star Zavon Watkins getting disqualified in the 600, as Fleming won in 1:29.49, more than a second ahead of WG’s Sean Richardson.
