LETTERS: Recusals are in order for Lysander appointments

— To the editor: Recently, our newly elected Lysander Town Board members appointed a new person to our Town Planning Board. Not only to the board, but also they appointed him chairman. I have a question regarding Mr. Frederick Allen and his new appointment. Will Mr. Allen, when and if the YMCA of Greater Syracuse submits an application, whether at Drakes Landing or another Lysander site, recuse himself?

It is well documented that Mr. Allen and his family have had a long business relationship with Mark Bitz. It includes Plainville Turkey farms and CNY Crops. It is also well known that Mr. Bitz for many many years has an unending passion to bring a YMCA to Lysander. One can clearly see the conflict of interest that lies before this man.

It is not much different than Mr. Allen’s first day on the job. His son was on the planning board agenda for a minor subdivision, in which Mr. Allen took the correct path and recused himself from voting on the matter.

Of course the same question can be asked of L. Micha Ordway, Jr., our newly appointed Lysander Zoning Board of Appeals Member and chairman. On his Attorney Profile Page, he is listed as the Treasurer of the downtown YMCA.

So I ask, will these gentlemen do the right thing with regards to any future decisions regarding the YMCA that may come before their respective boards by recusing themselves?

Jeff Dack is a resident of Lysander.

Using your own logic then should the 2 members of the planning board that live in Radisson recuse themselves? They have a clear conflict of interest.

No. If you attended the meetings, according to the attorney for the YMCA, "cars travel down Drakes Landing only 800 feet and only pass 1 street, no driveways, so there is no impact". So according to him, if you do not use the first street, which is Oak Brook it will not affect you.

Why no response to the recusals of the 2 members that live in Radisson? Don't change the subject to traffic, Jeff.

Not sure I understand why the planning boar would need to recuse themselves as your conflict of interest makes no sense. The whole board would need to recuse themselves because they live in the town of Lysander. Maybe if you explained the conflict of interest I could by your argument.

Oh, come on and give it up. Your problem is that the Democrats FINALLY were elected in the Town of Lysander. Why don't you check who Mr. Bullis appointed during his tenure. I bet most of them were his friends or relatives. Now some exciting, positive things will happen , now that there is new blood in the town. Hurray for the voters that realized the incumbent's were worthless and needed to be voted out.

I personally dont care if its democrats or republicans running the town board. However, I dont want people in there that are just going to do the same ole' thing and help thier own. Help the town or go home. I do not want to see the Y around radisson. It is a residential community. We have our own board that is supposed to vote for the best interests of all residents. There really should be no argument here. Go drop it on commercial land!!!
