B’ville woman graduates US Marine Corps boot camp

— Pvt. Lydia Grace Darling, 18, of Baldwinsville, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on May 11.

Pvt. Darling successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD Parris Island as one of 68 recruits in Training Platoon 4012. While in basic training, Pvt. Darling led her platoon in the three-mile forced run, scored a perfect 300 on the physical fitness test and a 295 on the combat fitness test. She also qualified as a marksman with the M16A2 service rifle.

Following 10 days home on liberty, she will report to the Syracuse Armed Forces Recruiting station to serve for 20 days as a recruiter’s assistant. In June, Pvt. Darling will report to Camp LeJeune, NC for one month of Military Combat Training. Immediately following MCT, Pvt. Darling will report to the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. to begin her Military Occupation Specialty training in aviation support.

Pvt. Darling is a 2012 graduate of CW Baker High School.
