Blood drive held to honor Gleason family

— On Oct. 21, a fatal accident in Darien took the life of Audrey Gleason, 55, of Baldwinsville, and seriously injured her daughter, 16-year-old Kelly, who was traveling in the back seat of the family’s Toyota Rav 4, which was being driven by Dennis Gleason, Audrey’s husband and Kelly’s father.

Their vehicle was hit head on by a car whose driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid another vehicle making a left-hand turn.

To honor the family, the Baker High School Key Club recently held a blood drive at the school. While the blood drive had been scheduled for months, the students wanted to do something for their classmate, Kelly, who is a junior at Baker High School, and Audrey, who was a bus driver and job coach with the school district. The Key Club approached Principal Joseph DeBarbieri with the request to dedicate the Oct. 24 drive to the Gleason family in order to show their support for Kelly, who is recovering from her injuries at Mothers and Children’s Hospital.

If you are interested in donating blood, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.
