Radisson resident convicted sex offender

— Radisson resident Thomas G. Smith, 48, of 6211 Festival Court, pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree sexual abuse on Oct. 16. Smith admitted in Lysander Town Court before Lysander town Judge Charles Mantione to engaging in sexual contact with a 10-year-old boy in May and June of last year.

A lawyer formerly employed by the U.S. District Court in Syracuse, Smith was sentenced to six years' probation on Dec. 18 for sexually molesting the boy. According to Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Cali, there were several incidents between Smith and the boy, which took place in Smith’s home while the victim was a visitor. Smith pled to one charge to cover all allegations.

In addition, the court rated Smith a Level 1 sex offender as a result of the conviction, which means Smith will have to register as a convicted sex offender. Smith also faces an appellate court review of his license to practice law as a result of the misdemeanor conviction.
